The child was taken into care after police waited in vain at the flat for the mother's return
A Moroccan woman has been taken into custody by the National Police in Málaga after leaving her two year old son alone in the house with the door left open. She is understood from Diario Sur to have a previous record with the police and now faces charges of neglect.
Police were called out to the city centre flat, described as filthy, last Friday evening after a concerned neighbour heard the child crying inside. Officers waited there for the mother’s return, with the child, for two hours, but, when she failed to appear, finally decided to take the boy to hospital to be checked over by a paediatrician.
The mother was located later that evening and the child has been placed in the temporary care of the Junta de Andalucía while the police and court investigations continue. Diario Sur said the family’s living conditions are being studied by the regional government.
