The Socialist Mayor gets a one year sentence and a 9 year ban from office
Sentencing has been announced for José Luis Navas Camacho, the Socialist Mayor of Sayalonga who has been on trial at the criminal courts in Málaga for planning crimes. He has been found guilty and has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and a nine year ban from office.
In the decision made public this Wednesday, the judge at Criminal Court No. 7, ruled it proved that the Mayor had not only granted an illegal building licence, but had then archived the proceedings which had been opened by the Town Hall against the person who built the property. The judge considered that the Mayor took the decision to archive ‘without any justification’, while EFE notes that his move was opposed by the Town Hall secretary.
The land in question was classified as unsuitable for development.
