Prostitutes on a street in Spain - EFE
Granada has already brought in its own regulations and hefty fines
A new local by-law imposing hefty fines for street prostitution came into force in Granada this Wednesday and it’s now been confirmed that Málaga is working on similar regulations. Málaga’s Mayor, Francisco de la Torre, said City Hall’s legal team has been working on the by-law for some months and hopes to have the draft version ready within the next few weeks, La Opinión de Málaga reports.
The text was drawn up by the social welfare department and is being carefully studied by legal advisors to avoid a repeat of the cases in Barcelona and Sevilla, whose councils, according to Málaga’s councillor for social welfare, Mariví Romero, rushed through approval of their new regulations and are now unable to apply them.
It’s understood the Málaga regulations aim to control a range of activities which take place in the street, but will not cover begging. The draft, once finalised, is to be discussed with social sectors in the city and opposition councillors at Málaga City Hall.
