The investigation is believed to relate to planning licences granted under the previous Mayor

It was four weeks ago that the Town Hall building in El Ejido was searched in a corruption swoop which saw the town’s Partido de Almería Mayor, Juan Enciso, arrested with 19 other suspects, and there has been a new swoop elsewhere in the province this Monday.

The search on this occasion affects the Town Hall in Arboleas, a village of some 4,000 inhabitants to the south east of Albox.
It’s reported to have been ordered by a court and relates to planning licences.

The Socialist Mayor of Arboleas, Ángel García, told El Mundo newspaper that the court investigation is not connected with other cases, such as El Ejido, which are under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor. The paper said the documentation on building licences which the officers are inspecting relate to the mandate of the town’s previous Mayor, Francisco Pérez Miras of PSOE, who it’s understood died in January after a long illness.
