The dates were given by the head of the ADIF infrastructure company who was on a visit to the region on Thursday
The ADIF rail infrastructure company has guaranteed that the AVE high speed train will reach Murcia in 2014, but the extension on to Cartagena remains without a date. A station has been confirmed for Lorca.
The work to build the urban sections in Murcia and Cartagena will be put out to tender very shortly and the sections for Totana and Librilla will be put out in the first half of next year.
President of ADIF, Antonio González Marín, also said on a visit to Alicante and Murcia on Thursday, that the train will arrive in Alicante in 2012, describing that not as a promise but a reality. However it is still not clear when the tender for the line’s approach to the city will be released.
The Monforte section will become a hub for the high speed service where trains from Alicante and Murcia will head to Madrid.
