The Paseo Marítimo in Chiclana - Wikipedia
The owners of illegal properties consider the price they must pay to make their homes legal to be exorbitant
More than 4,000 people marched through Chiclana on Saturday against what they see as unfair and excessive payments they must make to bring their homes into legality. The Town Hall wants to regularise the situation of some 15,000 properties which have been built in the area illegally, and the cost of doing that must be met by the owners.
El País reports that the charge set out in the new local ordinances ranges from 30,000 € to 140,000 € for each illegal property, to cover the administrative costs and the cost of basic services such as mains water supply, street lighting and sewerage. But the owners consider the charge to be exorbitant and say they are simply unable to pay it.
They believe the regional government should pay the large part for, El País said, its and the Town Hall’s failure to control the years of illegal building in Chiclana.
A platform was recently set up by the owners of legal properties who are against public money being used to help those who built their homes without permission.
