Recent cases of Britons finding their homes illegal don't appear to have had much effect back in the U.K.

Spain will continue to be the top destination choice for a second home among the British, according to a survey from Savills International Research and HomeAway Holiday-Rentals.

The companies questioned 1,200 people and found that Western Europe, including Spain, the Baleares, Portugal and the South of France remained more popular than more distant destinations in the South of Europe such as Cyprus, Greece or Turkey, and the distant destinations of the United States and the Caribbean.

The British second residency market has doubled since 2001, reaching 400,000 homes a year, although the current economic climate has reduced the numbers dramatically.
