Pjanic celebrates his all-important away goal - EFE
The have failed to reach the quarter finals for the past six years

Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at the Bernabéu on Wednesday night by Olympique de Lyon, and are thus out of the Champions League at this stage of the competition for the sixth consecutive year, another year without reaching the quarter finals.

They had a goal to recover after the first leg, and could not have got off to a better start with a seven minute goal from Cristiano Ronaldo. The side then failed to capitalise on a series of opportunities over the first half.

But two changes made by Lyon after half time were decisive to their breakthrough when Pjanic scored the equaliser.

Real fans showed their frustration with loud whistling when Kaká was substituted by Raúl towards the end of the game.
One Spanish commentator said Real went out as if they were playing Sevilla, and after the match Guti admitted the side fell short in the important games.

Manager Pellegrini said that he was not thinking of resigning right now, but admitted the sensation of failure.
