The town's famous palm trees are under threat

In the face of the spreading plague of red beetle affecting local palm trees, growers in the Elche region are now trying fumigating their trees. Several associations have got together to organise a congress where information can be shared on the symptoms and best treatment to deal with the plague. The fumigation method is used as a preventative measure, and can only be used on trees which have not yet been affected – those that have need to be immediately destroyed to stop the spread of the beetle.
