Red beetle plague threatens palm trees in Murcia region

The local council for agriculture is concerned the bugs will spread

The Plaque of Red Beetles affecting many palm trees has extended across the Murcia region and now thousands of trees are threatened. The health chief from the regional Council for Agriculture, Esteban Abad, said that the first cases had now been seen in the area of Sangonera la Seca, where the trees affected have been destroyed, but there now was a real fear that the plague will spread.
