The patient was infected while in hospital in Orihuela

The regional health service has been ordered to pay 78,000 € compensation to the family of a woman who died from Legionnaires Disease in the Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela in August 2002.

The Valencia High Court of Justice said in their ruling that the 71 year patient was infected by an outbreak of Legionnaires Disease and died from the septic shock it caused.

They said there is no evidence that she carried the bacteria herself when she was admitted in July that year, and say it is proved she was infected while in hospital.
