55 people were arrested and 24 premises searched along the Costa del Sol
The National Police has broken up what they are calling the largest network of fraudsters ever seen on the Costa del Sol.
The gang had as many as seven local workshops to carry out their criminal activity. In two of the workshops 250 kilo hydraulic presses were found, used for the pressing of false 2 € coins.
50 people from Romania, and five from Spain, have been arrested and a total of 24 searches were carried out of premises in Gaucín (3), Manilva (1), Estepona (1), Benalmádena (8), Fuengirola (6), Marbella (1), Málaga capital (2), Cártama (1) and Alhaurín el Grande (1).
Police say the gang was divided up into separate ‘brigades’ dedicated to the falsification of credit cards, robberies from homes and hotels, frauds on the Internet and elsewhere, and drug trafficking.
Much of the stolen goods were then later sold elsewhere with the group collecting half the income.
