Many beaches were washed away in January storms

346,000 cubic metres of sand have been used to rebuild the beaches of the Costa del Sol in time for Easter. The rebuilding programme after the January storms has now been completed on 28 of the province’s beaches.

The amount of sand already returned to the coast is half the total amount planned for the whole of this year, and has generally been taken from river estuaries.

On the eastern Costa del Sol five beaches have benefited including those in Torrox, Nerja and Torrre del Mar, and on the western coast beaches in Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Mijas, San Pedro and Manilva. Work in Estepona will take place after Easter.
