Ministry technicians concluded that the steel platform which supported the viaduct under construction gave way owing to a fault in a welded seam. Six men lost their lives when the structure collapsed in November 2005.
Professor Federico Paris, who is a specialist in resistance and elasticity, said the explanations given by the Ministry experts are very generalised, and that the team should have carried out in-depth investigations into exactly why the welded seam gave way.
