Around 20 of the more than 600 MP’s in the House of Commons have constituted this Parliamentary Group in support of Cataluña, and the plan of the Generalitat to celebrate a referendum on independence.
‘In our condition as members of the United Kingdom Parliament, we write to express our concern with respect to the summons of Sra. Carme Forcadell I Lluís, president of the Catalan Parliament, to declare as under investigation for the presumed crimes of disobedience and breach of public duty before the Cataluña Superior Justice Court..’
This is the start of a letter sent recently to Mariano Rajoy by seven British MPs from the House of Commons. They form part of ‘The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Catalonia’ – a hotchpotch of Scottish Welsh and nationalists, conservatives, labour and liberal democrats who have shown an interest in the events in Cataluña.
The creation of this group was celebrated as a diplomatic success for the Catalan Generalitat; councillor for Foreign Affairs Raül Romeva wants now to gain more international support for his plans for a referendum on segregation, to declare an independent Cataluña.
In fact, Romeva was in London recently to meet the said group.
