Jordi Pujol is the former President of the Catalan Generalitat and his home and his professional office were searched today Wednesday on the order of National Court judge José de la Mata who also wanted Jordi Pujol Ferrusola, who from yesterday has been held in provisional prison.
He was brought back to Madrid to watch the searching of his office which had extended all morning and then later his home in the Pyrenees village of Queralbs. During this time, the firstborn of the Pujol family had been taken to the National Police Station in La Verneda (Barcelona).
The searches are linked to the activities of Jordi Pujol Ferrusola and intend to find more evidence on the strategies he used to send his fortune abroad. The search of his father’s office, have been declared secret – as the task is extensive – an office some 80 square metres in Calle Calàbria in Barcelona, which the former president used to welcome visitors and to hide documents. He was attending most days for a few hours.
Leaving his office, Pujol lamented the judicial case against his patrimony and that of his family who face house searches also. ‘I am very sorry about what is happening’ he said at 14:35.
