EH Bildu parliamentarian and president of Sortu (Basque Socialist Party), Hasier Arraiz, announced today that the nationalist coalition will present in the Basque Parliament, a draft Law of Consultation which will allow a popular vote on the ‘political future’ of Euskadi before the end of 2016 which in the Basque Country is the end of their legislature.
Arraiz, in an interview with Radio Euskadi, remembered in the PNV manifesto drafted in 2015 was the commitment for a consultation among the Basque parties and they were hoping for ‘a positive response’.
He assured his initiative did not suggest any confrontation with the PNV to see which party is most pro-independence, but to ensure ‘the constituent process can be passed quicker’.
Arraiz recognised if the independents failed to win in the Catalan elections, the sovereigntist process would also slowdown in Euskadi.
He also considered the ‘long list of demands’ which had imposed the left-wing nationalists on the peace and coexistence process ‘had increased over time’ and is now ‘unreachable’.
