Jul 7, 2016 - 12:25 PM
The National Police believe this domestic operation was not supplying terrorist groups or organised crime, but among the weapons they have confiscated are 32 short guns and 55 rifles, ammunition, chargers, silencers, and two kilos of gunpowder, according to a statement made today from the Interior Ministry.

The operation ‘CAN’ was carried out by agents from Information General Commissariat with the Basque Country Main Police Station, based in Bilbao, in the framework of a European project in the Fight against Illicit Arms Trafficking with the collaboration of Europol.

Most of the items confiscated are firearms, with ‘an important number of detonators outside European standards for their ‘facility to be manipulated and transformed in real firearms’

The arrested, who has been accused of the crimes of illicit possession of firearms, of illicit trafficking and holding arms and ammunition, was found with a clandestine workshop with machinery and tools for the assembly of homemade weapons, and a simulated suitcase bomb.

According to the Ministry, the arrested used foreign armouries as a source for his components and also he was illegal importing weapons using the normal postal service.
