Agents from the Technological Investigation Unit of the National Police has managed to close a well-known forum used to stream or download films on demand and had uncovered the administrator of the site in Torrevieja.
The investigation started when several cinematographic companies reported the site which was not respecting intellectual property rights, nor by requesting the use of such works.
The site had different sections and users could choose where to go with documentals, series and films, all in high quality format and some in 3D.
The Police explained an important difference with this case. Previously they had found websites with lists of links to pirate content which was on another server, but here the administrator has uploaded the pirated content to his own server.
According to a Police statement, the users paid for direct access to films and series ‘with a great image quality’ through their computers, mobile phones or smart TV. The operation is a new advance against pirated content on the internet.
Police consider the objective if the site was to make money and price tables would change for special promotions to attract more interest.
The arrested man is Spanish, 44 years old and once identified the collaboration of the Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police in Alicante led to his detention. In the search of his home in Tenerife police found a portable computer, mobile phone, tablet and three pen-drives.
