Forty detained for prostituting Nigerians, three in caves.

A judge in Torrevieja is directing the operation realised in Alicante, Euskadi, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Murcia and Andalucía.

Nov 30, 2017 - 12:16 PM
Forty people have been arrested so far by the Guardia Civil, accused of sexually exploiting Nigerian women in Alicante and other provinces, some under age and victims rescued from caves in the province of Almería.

The Valencia Community Superior Justice Tribunal is already the court in Alicante province, instruction number 2 in Torrevieja which is coordinating the police operation.

Thirteen of the victims, some underage, were obliged to prostitute themselves, presumably in caves in Almería province, where they were rescued by the agents.

The arrests were made in two phases – the first last week when 27 suspects were identified, 24 now in preventative prison, isolated and without bail. The other three arrested were granted provisional freedom with the obligation to present at the court every week, passports confiscated and a prohibition from leaving Spain.

The crimes, for which the Torrevieja judge, Juana López, is investigating belong to a criminal organisation dedicated to human trafficking, introducing prostitution and money laundering.

The second phase, was developed this week in Alicante city and Torrevieja and in the localities in Almería province of Vera and Roquetas de Mar, with thirteen arrested who today pass to judicial disposition.

Those being held in custody are nearly all Nigerian, and are suspects for sexually exploiting compatriots by forcing them to routinely prostitute themselves on roundabouts and flats in diverse Spanish cities.
