The 50 year old agent was on duty and was inside the van at the time of the explosion. Investigators from the central team of ocular inspection with a specialist Tedax group went to Almería to determine the cause of the explosion.

The Government Sub-Delegate for Almería, Andrés García Lorca, who went to the barracks, told journalists that the moment of the explosion the man was ‘revising explosive material’ which indicates ‘it has been a lamentable accident’.

García Lorca admitted he was shocked by what had happened.
