A British documentary on Afghan soldiers has won DocumentaMadrid

The British production ‘Tell Spring Not to Come This Year’ by Saeed Taji Farouki and Michael McEvoy, has been garlanded with first prize in the DocumentaMadrid Festival for its ‘humanity and courage to show, from the inside, the unsolved Afghan conflict’.

May 9, 2015 - 7:13 PM
Also the winner of the public prize in the Panorama Documental at the last Berlinale, the documental follows one unit of the Afghan National Army over the course of their first year of deployment in Helmand without NATO support.

It is an intimate film about the human side of combat, told from a largely unheard and misrepresented perspective that explores the deep personal motivations, desires and struggles of a band of fighting men on the frontline. Without a NATO soldier in sight, and no narrative but their own, this is the war in Afghanistan, through the eyes of the Afghans who live it.

DocumentaMadrid is an annual film festival and his held in the Cinema in the Madrid Matadero. Each year it showcases the best documentaries from the world and has several categories from short films to feature films.
