Messi, sentenced to 21 months jail for tax evasion

The footballer and his father were accused of defrauding 4.1 million € from the Treasury.

Jul 6, 2016 - 12:53 PM
The Barcelona Provincial Court has condemned Lionel Messi the Barça centre forward to 21 months in prison for tax evasion via a framework of financial paradises. This permitted the player to forget the income from his image rights for between the years 2007 and 2009, to avoid being taxed on said income in Spain.

The State Advocacy had requested 22 months and 15 days imprisonment for both; the prosecutor for 18 months and only for the father who he accuses had created the accounts.
