The owner of the multinational textile company Inditex will provide new digital mammography equipment in a total of 16 Sergas (Galician Health Service) centres for the early diagnosis of breast cancer and 10 new lineal accelerators for radiotherapy, and will revise the two existing machines.
The president of the Galician Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, explained the objective with these new equipments is to improve the lives of more than 220,000 patients who use Galician hospitals, increasing early diagnosis, achieving shorter treatment times with more efficient treatments.
This investment will be part of a larger program organised by the Junta de Galicia for the next few years to renew all the health equipment in the Sergas centres, with an estimated total investment of 88 million €.
Feijóo said the first installations would start before Christmas and the rest will replace the older equipment when it is considered aged.
‘We are speaking about improving the quality of life, including extending it for many people and this cannot be quantified even by a long shot’.
‘I think we will develop healthy citizenship which will be committed in solidarity and immense pride with what we are achieving’, said Feijóo.
