Discovered 540,000 € in a sunken fishing boat in Vigo


The cash was hidden in rucksacks and packets in the cabins of the Capitan and the bridge commander

Unexpected booty - more than 540,000 € found by agents from the Guardia Civil from the Tax Office last May 17 in the Panamanian registered fishing boat which had departed from Manta (Ecuador) and was lying under the waters of the Vigo river.

It was 541,136 € in total hidden across the vessel which was going to be repaired at local shipyard. During routine diving of sunken mercantile vessels, and fishing boats from certain destinations. Also found was a personal computer.

The origin of the loot remains unknown but as it is above 10,000 € it has to be handed over to the customs authorities. The case has been placed before Instruction Court 3 in Vigo for the commission of contraband, and the money is being held by the court.
