1513 - Florida (current United States), the Spanish Juan Ponce de León took possession on behalf of Spain.
1701 - The Spanish Courts recognised as King Felipe V.
1740 – War of Jenkins' Ear: Three British ships capture the Spanish third-rate Princesa, taken into service as HMS Princess.
1898 - The Atlantic Fleet, under Admiral Pascual Cervera y Topete leaves Cadiz course to Cuba to quell outbreaks of the colony independence.
