0601: Witerico, the Visigoth king of Spain, usurps power after leading a revolt of nobles.
1489: Muslim town of Fiñana (Almería) is conquered by the Christian troops of the Catholic Monarchs.

1503: The Battle of Garigliano (1503) was fought between a Spanish army under Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba and a French army commanded by Ludovico II, Marquess of Saluzzo.
1587: The playwright, Lope Félix de Vega Carpio, is arrested in Madrid, charged with libel. He was banished from Court for eight years, and from the Kingdom of Castile for two.
1813: Napoleon Bonaparte forced his brother Joseph to abdicate the Crown of Spain.
1854: The first issue of El Norte de Castilla newspaper that is still currently editing is published in Valladolid.
1858: Opened in Madrid the "Company of the Railroads of Northern Spain" for the construction of the Madrid-Irun line.
1874: The military coup of Gen. Martinez Campos in Sagunto ends the failed First Spanish Republic and Prince Alfonso is proclaimed King of Spain.
1917: 24,000 tons of wheat are shipped in Buenos Aires to Spain.
1931: The Spanish dancer Antonia Merce, "The Argentinita" debuted in New York with great success.
1934: The work Yerma by Federico Garcia Lorca opens in the Spanish Theater of Madrid.
1945: It opens in Madrid the film Last of the Philippines, declared of national interest.
1965: Australia wins the Davis Cup by defeating Spain in the final in Sydney.
1969: Cessation of Spanish Minister of Information and Tourism, Manuel Fraga Iribarne
1978: The Spanish Constitution is published in Spain’s Official State Bulletin, the Boletín Oficial de España.
1981: Julio Iglesias Puga, father of the singer Julio Iglesias, is kidnapped by ETA terrorists in Trasmoz, Zaragoza. He was freed by police on 19th January 1982.
1989: The Ibex 35 index of the Madrid Stock Exchange.opens in Madrid

1903: Enrique Herreros, Spanish humorist and cartoonist.
1912: Federico Gómez de Salazar, Spanish soldier.
1924: Francisco Nieva, playwright, set designer, stage director, narrator and Spanish sketcher.
1931: Mauro Muñiz, Spanish writer and journalist.
1950: Luis Alberto de Cuenca, poet, essayist and Spanish philologist.
1960: Joseba Apaolaza, Spanish actor.

1849: Dionisio Aguado y Garcia, Spanish classical guitarist and composer.
1980: Manuel Gago, Spanish writer and illustrator of comics. (b. 1925).
