1285 - Sancho IV and the Sultan of Morocco, Ibn Yusuf Ibn al-Hahmar, peace sign after the latter besieged Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz) and Seville attack.
1520 - The navigator, Fernando de Magallanes (Magellan) rounded the Cape of the Virgins (Cabo Vírgenes) at the mainland tip of South America, reaching the entrance to what is now known as the Strait of Magellan – the sea channel he discovered between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
1805 – Napoleonic Wars: Battle of Trafalgar: A British fleet led by Vice Admiral Lord Nelson defeats a combined French and Spanish fleet off the coast of Spain under Admiral Villeneuve, signaling almost the end of French maritime power and leaves Britain's navy unchallenged until the 20th century.
