The arrested, aged 31 and 35 were fined in 2010 for abusing girls inside a mosque.

The two Moroccan Imams were detained in the early hours of this morning by the Civil Guard in Ibiza inside the mosque Masllid al Fath for their support of Daesh, and this is an exceptional case as the normal activities of the Muslim leaders in Spain are usually correct.

The detained, A.E.M and J.R. aged 31 and 35, started to increase their internet activity and on the social networks in 2012, coinciding with the Arab Spring and massive exodus of foreign combatants to join ranks with the Daesh terrorists in Syria and Iraq – notes the Interior Ministry.

With these two detentions, since 2015 the year when the Anti-terrorist Alert Level reached 4, the State security forces have detained 156 jihadists.

One of the aspects which most concerned the detectives, ‘has been the influence of both individuals had over the members of the Islamic community on the island, highlighting children were being indoctrinated into terrorism’, notes the press release.

According to the Interior Ministry investigations, A.E.M used his personal profile on Facebook as a platform for distributing propaganda in favour of Daesh, a practice he continued in the Islamic community he was leading.

From his profile, which publically bragged about his support for terrorist activity, there were links to propaganda made by ISIS, with videos and links to radical publications.

In addition, the detained favoured the adhesion of their faithful into the radical Salafist ideology, fomenting sentiments of hate, segregation and violence against the so-called ‘enemies of Islam’. They also incited their followers to go to combat zones to join the ranks of Daesh.

The operation was carried out by the Civil Guard Information Headquarters, with Civil Guards from Baleares Command, under the direction of a National Court prosecutor with the collaboration of the Territorial Vigilance Direction from the Moroccan Reign.

Those responsible in the investigation will centre their efforts in the documents removed and data hiding inside smartphones, to establish whether they are only part of wider radical network.
