The Spanish suspect 39 years old and resident of Palma was detained for the crimes of negligent homicide, and dangerous driving. Shortly after the accident the Guardia Civil started a search for the driver.

The victim had arrived on a flight from Northern Ireland with a group of friends to enjoy the weekend. It seems they had been partying in the area and the victim was also drunk and stumbling in the street when he was rundown.

The facts, according to police and health sources, occurred around 3am at a crossroads between Calles Pinada and Alt, close to Punta Ballena in Calvià. A Ford Focus driven by 39 year old C.O.R hit the 40 year old victim in the middle of the road and dragged him for some ten metres.

Several calls alerted the emergency services and rapidly at the scene were Calvià Local Police patrols. The agents found the man was seriously injured and had entered cardiac arrest. The civil servants tried the reanimate him as two ambulances arrived from IB – health and the team attended to the injured. However, their efforts were in vane, and they could only confirm the death of the pedestrian.

His identification was not easy, as his passport was in the hotel, and investigations established he was from Northern Ireland and had arrived on the Saturday with a group of friends and were intending to return home today.
The body was taken to the Palma Legal Medicine Institute where the autopsy will be arranged,
