Early yesterday the Public Health direction received a notification of one more case of legionnaire in Palmanova, taking the total number in the outbreak to 20.
Maria Ramos denied any importance of this latest case given his early contraction and the lack of any other recent cases. She added that he was staying in a private apartment above a restaurant which was offering clients a water spray to keep them cool, and health technicians had inspected theses installed apparatus despite the premises being closed now.
In fact, samples taken from these sources were still in the laboratory waiting for any development of the bacteria.
Ramos informed that in two hotels they had detected traces of the legionella bacteria as being the source of the outbreak.
These positive tests are sent to Madrid’s National Micro-Biology Centre and a sample from the Briton who died in Son Espases, is undergoing a genetic study to determine the exact bacteria which had proved fatal, and likewise the exact focus of the outbreak.
‘Next week we should know more details, and the following the focus of the infection’ trusted Ramos.
