The National Police suspect the aggressor, a youth of French origin, detained in Palma last Saturday, raped a woman in her home twice, and then tried to drug her with a dozen pills, and then finally decided to set her home alight last Tuesday.

The agents are trying to identify the drugs he forced her to take, but first evidence was an attempt to sedate her.

The Homicides Group are investigating this case. The suspect 20 years old, stayed inside the victim’s home for some two hours, situated in the street Capità Vila in Palma. Beforehand the presumed had raped her twice and then had tried to use the drugs to gain her submission.

The youngster had a search and capture order against him, for escaping from a minors’ internment centre on the island. It appears he is also suspected of previously carrying out a series of violent thefts.

Confirming these new illicit facts, he faces the charges for the crimes of two sexual aggressions, setting fire, attempted homicide, drug offences and violent theft.

Yesterday afternoon, the youth held in custody took up his right to silence during questioning by the detectives from the National Police who reached the Son Espases hospital where the suspect was admitted.

He spent all yesterday in the Psychiatry Ward after he threatened to take his own life. As a measure to stop self-wounding, he was taken to the hospital in Palma, under the auspices of a specialist who concluded that he was generally both physically and mentally well.

The Police also believe during his time in the flat he had used a knife to obtain the PIN number of her credit card, and after setting the fire, he went to a cashpoint where he was caught by the camera inside.
