A British tourist who simulated a crime in Maó has been detained
He affirmed he had been robbed of money and equipment worth 9,000 €

The National Police in Maó proceeded on October 23 to detain a male of British origin, for the crime of simulating a crime, according to a statement released today Tuesday.
The detained reported the theft on October 16, claimed he had been violently attacked when walking in Maó. In his complaint he declared about 9pm three individuals threw him to the ground, and stole his rucksack which was holding a camera, wallet and money in cash, and claimed it was worth nearly 9,000 €.
The National Police started investigations to clarify the theft. A few days later they spotted the same man, walking with a rucksack, and on inspection found the wallet and camera inside.
Once he was surprised with the objects in his possession he was told he would be detained in the charge of simulating a crime.
On further investigation he was discovered to have previously made the same at the Alicante Police Station.
