The National Police are investigating the death of the 61 year old woman, whose cadaver was found yesterday just before noon inside the apartment she shared with her romantic partner in Can Pastilla. Broken glass was found on the floor with other evidence of blood.
The agents from the Homicide Group yesterday afternoon left all options open over the hypothesis on what has occurred.
A first thought of suicide was soon ruled out because the death had occurred in mysterious circumstances which the detectives are now analysing.
The results of the autopsy being held this morning in Palma will shed more light on the crime. Another key piece of evidence will be the testimony of the boyfriend who was involved in an angry argument with the women the night before, and who then disappeared. The argument was heard by other tourists staying in the same building.
The detectives have concluded death occurred between Sunday night and the early hours of yesterday. The body was already showing signs of rigor mortis and therefore had died between five and ten hours before the macabre discovery.
The identity of the deceased caused problems for the agents as apparently the apartment was reserved in another name.
A witness noted ‘the arrival of many police cars and vans and then the ambulance arrived, and left shortly after’. The medical team confirmed the victim was already dead. The body was reported to the duty court in Palma and a forensic scientist has examined the injuries.
The Homicides Group and Scientific Police collected visual and other evidence at the scene on the first floor and by three in the afternoon a funeral director collected the body.
