‘Absolved for out-of-date, 85 year old Doctor Eduardo Vela, the only accused in the first case of babies stolen in Spain’

The Madrid Provincial Court has absolved doctor Eduardo Vela by considering his crimes are out of date and for supposedly kidnapped and stole baby Inés Madrigal in 1969.

In the sentence, the Seventh Section of the Madrid Court considered him guilty on all charges, illegal detention, intervening illegally in pregnancy and falsification of an official document, but pardoned of all given the case dates back to 1987 when Madrigal became 18.

The resolution is subject to appeal and he could appeal to the Supreme Court Hall II.

The presence of the gynaecologist was not expected, given he had remained absent during all the proceedings, claiming reasons of poor health.

Vela was accused of participating in the theft of Inés Madrigal in 1969 in the San Ramón Clinic in Madrid, where his co-workers included Sor María Florencia Gómez Valbuena, the first person over which the judge opened proceedings in Spain for such an abhorrence, and who died four days after she was called to declare in 2013.

Said doctor presumably took the baby from its biological mother and then gave it to a sterile woman, who had faked her pregnancy by stuffing cushions under her cardigan.
