In the face of the avalanche of migrants Brussels is using two strategies, the ones resettled and the ones relocated. The resettlement program offers 20,000 places for the refugees from their country of origin or in transit, and in this way they will be kept away from the illegal traffickers and dangerous boats.
Germany is taking the largest number of refugees at 18.42%, and they are followed by France at 14.17% and Italy at 11.84%. After Spain at 9.10% there is a gap to 5.64% which is for Poland and then comes Holland 4.35% and Portugal 3.89%.
Great Britain has not been included in the scheme and it should also be pointed out these numbers and percentages don’t include the migrants who arrival illegally in Europe and those who have come for monetary reasons would be returned to their country of origin.
The emergency exceptions are those who can prove political persecution or the violation of human rights in their home country. Asking for asylum in Spain is not easy. A series of strict and cumbersome regulations have to be met, but over recent years with the conflicts in the Arab countries the people who are granted political asylum has risen sharply.
According to Eurostat in 2014 the EU granted 185,000 requests, nearly 50% higher than the year before.
