The British National Health Service pays thirteen times more than Spain for treatment of mutual residents abroad.

The difference is because there are more British residents living in Spain than Spaniards living in Britain, and with the added difference of the British population being older.

The numbers come from the National Health Service and have been reported recently in The Guardian and cover the period 2013-2014. The NHS bill for British residents over all the European countries was 155 million pounds, some 215 million €.

Understandably Spain has received the largest amount at 39.8 million pounds, some 55 million € compared the money returned to Spain from Britain of 3 million pounds some 4.14 million €.

If the thirteen times difference in Spain is compared with the exchanges between Britain and Germany the difference is 34 times and with Austria 43 times.

The British National Health Service thinks the money they are spending could represent as little as 20% as the recovery of the cost per treatment is not carried out correctly in many occasions.
