Between them both forces are investigating 837 cases on all types of terrorism.
The Interior Ministry considers the risk of an Islamic attack in Spain as ‘high’, so the Government has activated a level 2 alert which considers ‘a probable risk of attack’. It comes ten years after the Madrid bombings.
Barcelona, Madrid, Córdoba, Málaga and Ceuta are where most investigations against the Jihadist networks are underway, and Cataluña and Andalucía are where the most homes or shops are under surveillance.
Police are using an enormous database, which references people, companies, means of transport, tapping of telephones, bank accounts, e-mail and web pages. This database is kept open and updated daily, in the case of a sleeping cell has been waiting to attack.
Of the 368 cases, 234 are in operation and 134 are sleeping, and in 291 cases the police know the location of the suspects, 63 of them in Cataluña. They keep a special watch on those attending Salafist meetings.
Meanwhile a Jihadist searched for by Spain has been arrested in Luxemburg. The Belgian, Davide De Angelis, known as Abu Nouh, has supposedly returned from Syria. The police link him to a group which was dismantled in March in Melilla, and led by the Spaniard, Mustafa Maya Amaya. Police say the two men were recruiting people prepared to go to conflict zones.
