Most Spaniards buy a tenth of a ticket

Dec 14, 2017 - 1:06 PM

This year 70 million more € will be shared as prizes. The issue consists of 165 series of 100,000 numbers each one, and one first prize – known as el Gordo – the fat one will share four million euro in one series, the second prize shared is 1.25 million € per series, the third prize shared is 500,000 € per series. Two fourth prizes of 200,000 € per series and finally eight fifth prizes of 60,000 € a series. Cost of a tenth of a ticket remains at 20€

Looking at the First prize gives 400,000 € per tenth, or 20,000 € for every € spent.

There are also participations or fractions of the tenth – usually sold by charitable organisations to finance their activities. If they should win, the person responsible for sharing the money will be the person who was given the job to sell the participations.

Near misses or approximations – there are three types, first, second and third prize, paid to the numbers both previous and after the winning number. This equates to first prize 2,000 € per tenth, second 1,250 € per tenth and third 960 € per tenth.

Groups of hundreds have four types, first, second, third and fourth prizes all of which pay 100 € per tenth.

Also looking at the winning and second numbers – if your tenth has the same two last numbers as either the prize is 100 € per tenth.

Lastly if you ticket has the last number correct your money in refunded or 20 € per tenth
