The Train of Liberty will arrive at noon tomorrow in Madrid as part of a demonstration against the draft abortion reform.

The organisers of the train say they want to keep the abortion law as it is now when the mother makes the choice.

Jan 30, 2014 - 1:59 PM
The Train of Liberty has been organised by the Feminist Turtulia les Comadres y Mujeres por la igualidad de Barredos.
(Barredos is a town in Asturias)

Other convoys will join the march and there will be a musical note with the samba sounds of the ‘Kontra Bloko Sound Antisystem’ as they make their way, after a brief stop outside the Ministry for Health, Social Services and Equality, they then will go on to Congress.

Despite the fact that the new public protection legislation bans any demonstration outside Congress, the protestors will probably ignore that, although there is bound to be a large police presence around the Congress building tomorrow.

As each day passes it seems more likely that Gallardón will make some change to his draft law. The fact is, which he has made clear on many occasions, is that he does not want to change it. He thinks it is perfect and has even gone as far as to say it is the best piece of legislation he has ever made.

The size of the opposition to his plans is not only in Spain, some 2,000 people gathered in Brussels yesterday protesting against Spain’s draft law. The demonstration was called by progressive parties and associations which defend reproductive rights. The participants marched from the Spanish Embassy in Brussels to the headquarters of the European Parliament. The march was multinational but banners read, ‘We are all Spanish women’ and ‘Abortion legal and secure’.
