Podemos is trying to unite all the left-wing parties behind the PSOE.

The emerging party hopes to extend further its current coalition with I.U.

May 2, 2016 - 11:58 AM
Podemos has put into action the second part of an operation which was launched on December 20 after the general election for which they had achieved alliances with other formations in three communities (Cataluña, Galicia, and Valencia Community) which explains their good result.

Now, having reached an agreement with IU, they want to unite a series of political forces to the left of PSOE looking at the regional results. An alliance with the Baleares nationalist party MÉS would promote them to be leading party on the Baleares.

The negotiations between Podemos and Izquierda Unida for an electoral coalition for the ballot boxes on June 26 have been advancing over the weekend with their two organisation secretaries. They are going well, judges from the IU, Adolfo Barrena, who has maintained conversations with his Podemos counterpart, Pablo Echenique, because ‘that because we are continuing to talk signifies an eagerness to reach an accord’ reports El País.

The two formations, which direct the complicated understanding about candidate lists, budgetary sharing or a new name for the coalition, have reached an agreement to increase their alliance with more forces, despite this would complicate the puzzle of drawing up joint candidate lists.

In addition to the Baleares, or the Chunta Aragónesista in Aragón, a habitual partner with the IU, for example; On the Baleares, the general secretary of Podemos, Alberto Jarabo, has already got in contact with MÉS EU (the regional name for I.U) and the animal defence party PACMA with the objective of attracting volunteers and to become the most voted for list.
‘The time has come to paint these islands for change, and this passes to Podemos, as a transforming group and open to dialogue with the other forces’.
On December 20, Podemos was only 29,000 votes behind the PP. Together with the 33,931 voted for MÉS and the 11,434 for EU, an eventual coalition would remove victory from the PP.

PACMA is a good example how Podemos have connected nationally. Despite lacking their own Parliamentary group they obtained first time round the large number of 219,191 votes.
However, they have already ruled out Podemos over the National Fiesta of bullfighting as the prohibition of the art is not included in the Podemos manifesto. Pablo Iglesias has already integrated to his list the Equo green party for the first general election and they will remain.

‘We are going to unite more companions of both sexes’ said Iglesias in Puertollano, where he had gone to celebrate May 1.
‘The word ‘surpass’ we like as this is what we are going to do to the PP. Our objective is to govern’ indicated the leader of Podemos.

Opposition parties have until May 13 to reach a coalition for Government and by May 23 they have to supply their candidate lists for the June 26 poll
