Mr Manley and Ms Arbouin will be talking to residents at both events about any concerns they have around Brexit and to provide an update on the progress of Brexit negotiations and respond to any questions and concerns they may have.
Ahead of the events, Ambassador Simon Manley said,
“Since the outcome of the referendum we have met groups and individual British citizens from across Spain to listen to their concerns about Brexit. Citizens have always been a priority for the British Government in the negotiations, as they have been for Spain, and we have made significant progress in protecting their rights, both in the UK and across the rest of the EU, including through the agreement reached at the December European Council last year. We hope to make more progress this week at the March European Council.
That said, there are some important issues still to be resolved which Brits living in Andalusia may well be keen to discuss and for our part we will want to talk about how Brits living in Spain can be best prepared for our departure from the EU. These outreach events allow us to understand the concerns of British citizens better, and to ensure that those concerns are understood in both London and Brussels. I therefore look forward to the meetings in Mijas and Manilva.”
Times and location for both events have been confirmed as follows:
· MIJAS 22 March at 12pm at Avanto Restaurant (Calle Rota 9) in La Cala de Mijas. This event has been organised by Brexpats in Spain and spaces are limited, so book your seat by emailing info@brexpats.es if you wish to attend.
· MANILVA 22 March at 7pm at Villa Matilde, San Luis de Sabinillas.
Participation in these events is part of the efforts made by the British Embassy and Consulates in Spain to meet with British citizens across Spain, to ensure that the concerns they raise around healthcare, pensions and residency rights are understood by the UK negotiating team and reflected in their discussions with our EU partners about our departure from the EU.
