Taken into custody are 27 year old John R. and his British girlfriend Michelle A.P. for their alleged beating up a 36 year old compatriot to death, after an argument inside a hotel in Puerto de Santiago.
The victim has been named as Daryl B. and it was his birthday last Friday.
The four tourists arrived on the island on Saturday. According to witnesses the Santiago del Teide Local Police agents were first on the scene and on first assumptions saw two drunken men at the moment of the aggression.
For circumstances which are under investigation by the Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil of Playa de las Américas, the two corpulent men started a shouting argument which turned physical and people from the hotel reception and onlookers tried without success to separate them.
The victim fell to the floor half-conscious and with an injured mouth; allegedly the accused had bitten his lip.
Agents from the Santiago del Teide Local Police were alerted to the riot at 00:30 and the presumed aggressor suffered on facial injuries.
Given these circumstances, the detectives from the Local Police called an ambulance and both men were taken to a hospital in south Tenerife, where Daryl died. The presumed aggressor returned to the hotel. After hearing about the death, local policemen and Guardia Civil agents from the Playa San Juan barracks detained the pair of Britons. However, the Judicial Police are yet to determine their participation, if the man probably was the largest aggressor.
Detectives from the Armed Institute continue their investigations.
