The Guardia Civil has detained in Órgiva a 52 year old English woman, who is currently living in a ‘cortijo’ in the town and used Correos to send marihuana to England. She has been detained for the crime against public health for narcotic smuggling.
The Guardia Civil has managed to relate the detained with the sending of at least five postal packages containing different amounts of marihuana.
The first package was intervened in the Granada Central Post Office last February. Security personnel detected a suspicious packet possibly containing drugs and decided to scan the package and the alerted the post office in Órgiva as the package had been posted there.
The Guardia Civil obtained judicial authority to open the package and the agents found 54 grams of marihuana. Later, a new package was intercepted in Correos last June with another 50 grams destination England.
The return address was found out to be false and so the team of the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil in Órgiva opened an investigation to discover the person sending the packages.
During the investigation the agents not only discovered the woman now detained, but also that she had sent, between the two dates, three other packages containing drugs from the office in Almuñécar.
After her detention, the Guardia Civil searched her home and found 2742 grams of marihuana, two medium sized plants of cannabis sativa and diverse effects which were used to prepare the drugs for posting.
