At first, the investigators considered the possibility that the fire which cost the life of 43 year old Jesús M.C., could have been accidental in origin, but later evidence uncovered a turbulent history of resentment and revenge.

It occurred in the early hours of April 26 2014 in Almuñécar when, according to the prosecutor, five people made an agreement to ransack the flat of the victim. In these sense, and always according to the version of the facts elaborated by the public ministry, drugged the unfortunate Jesús using a potent tranquiliser previously dissolved in his beer.

Circumstances reveal the previous day the accused, supposedly, made a first attempt, and after drugging Jesús, they stole a savings bank booklet and a banking card, but as they failed to find the pin codes the attempt was a failure. They tried several times until the cash machine blocked the card and the booklet.
The tragedy came the following day.

The processed located Jesús in the street and again invited him for a beer, once again laced with laced with the drug, and tempted him with insinuations of a sexual nature.
Shortly after, they all went to the house of the victim, and once there, the accused continued to offer him a mixture of drinks and drugs until he collapsed. One of accused then put the owner of the flat onto the sofa and covered him with a blanket.

Quite relaxed they thought Jesús had just fainted and then the suspects searched his belongings, but only found a dressing case, several CD’s and a meagre booty. In frustration they decided to take the television which was screwed to the wall.

It was at that moment when the main suspect, María Victoria M.G. remained alone in the apartment with Jesús, who was still sleeping.
Then presumably the woman decided to start a fire using a rag and lighter. The fabric was at scant centimetres from the head of the victim, who was still unconscious. Seconds later she set a cushion alight and abandoned the scene, Jesús died minutes later from smoke inhalation.

According to the written prosecution from the Granada Provincial Prosecutors, María Victoria M.C. started the fire in vengeance against Jesús, who, in 2004 had burnt out the house of the presumed assassin, and had served a sentence of two years and six months in prison. It was a mortal revenge, according to the public ministry.

María Victoria, who has been imprisoned after the facts, now faces a requested twenty years in prison for the supposed commission of the crime of assassination ‘an ideal contest’ with another fire. In addition the prosecutor has requested an additional six years and eleven months for the crime of attempted robbery and another consumed.

The prosecution has requested for the other four accused sentences ranging between five and six years 11 months in prison. The case will be heard by a popular jury
