Revenge blamed for assassination by arson of the neighbours property

One main female suspect is among four accused, who presumably drugged the victim to rob him.

The First Section of the Granada Provincial Court has opened today a cause which continues until June 17 against a woman, María Victoria M.G. accused of assassinating her neighbour by setting fire to his house in Almuñécar (Granada) for ‘revenge’, and had also committed arson on the same home ten years before.

The Prosecution has requested for her a total of 26 years 11 months of prison in the case, for the 39 year old woman, who is being processed with four others, accused of violent robbery committed and attempted, the omission of give aid, and they face a prison sentence of between five and six years and eleven months in prison, plus fines of 4,320 € for each one.

They are 24 year old Juan F.R.P. his sentimental partner, 20 year old Carolina F.P. for two years with no criminal record and 30 year old José N.P. and 25 year old Juan M.R.M. with a criminal record.

According to the provisional written accusation, which Europa Press has gained access to, the facts date back to the early hours of April 25 2014, when three of the accused (María Victoria M.G.; Juan F.R.P.; and José N.P) arrived ‘in an attempt for illegal enrichment’ at the home of the victim, Jesús M.C., in Calle Cariñena in Almuñécar.

After chatting with him, they invited him to drink a beer, which had been drugged with several pills of the tranquiliser Alprazolam, and when he got dozy, the accused stole the keys to his house, a banking booklet and a credit card. They then went to two bank branches and tried to withdraw money, but the credit card was removed after three attempts of the PIN number. On the following morning, Jesús M.C. changed the lock of his home door.

The following night, in the early hours of April 26 2014, the five accused ‘made a common agreement to develop a preconceived plan for illegal enrichment’, they then went at about 4.am to the Plaza Antonio Gala in Almuñécar, a place frequented by the victim. There again they invited him to drink beer, also doped, which was the start of the argument between María Victoria and her former neighbour now deceased.

They then moved on close to the Almuñécar bus station, where they drank more spiked beer. Juan F.R.P. ‘knowing the homosexuality’ of Jesús M.C. invited him to more drinks and allowed him to stroke him. They then moved on to the Plaza de los Magnolias to have more beer.

Later, Juan F.R.P. proposed going to his home to have sexual relations, but he asked the processed Carolina F.P, his then girlfriend to accompany them. Once at his home, the youngster facilitated the participation of the rest of the accused. Jesús M.C ended up in a deep sleep and so Juan F.P.R. placed him on a sofa, and covered him with a blanket, while the rest ransacked the bedroom.

There they stole 15 € worth of marihuana, the new keys to the house, a bath bag containing personal objects, several CD’s, a LG television which was hanging on the wall, and took the booty to the home of María Victoria M.G – a mere 1o0m away.

It was then when María Victoria, was left alone in the house of her neighbour, and ‘guided by an eagerness for revenge’ she had set fire to the property in 2004 - facts for which she was condemned to 30 months in prison – grabbed a lighter and set fire to a cloth which had been placed next to the head of her victim who remained unconscious.

When the sofa started to burn, she left and started walking home, where she told one of the accused what she had done. Given then the five could see through the window the smoke pouring out of the home belonging to Jesús, who called the fire service.

When the emergency services arrived, they found next to the door, the body of Jesús who had died from smoke inhalation.

The blaze was generating high temperatures and destroyed all the furniture and affected all the surroundings of the flat, putting the lives of the other neighbours at risk.

The victim was 43 at the moment of his death, single and with three brothers. The stolen television was found on a terrace in the same building, valued at 395 €, and damage to the flat for 12,644 €.
