Latest studies show that there is 30 times more water underground than in the reservoirs

It’s been revealed that Málaga has 30 times more water in water tables underground than that held in reservoirs.

34 large underground lakes hold enough to cover ten times the demand for Málaga City each year and some 30% of these underwater resources are still not taken advantage of.

However latest research indicates that the Mijas water table could run dry in ten years, because of over exploitation.

Meanwhile the Government is reported to be considering the installation of a desalination plant to cure the problem of the salty water in the Guadalhorce reservoir.
