The Town Hall in El Bosque says traditional houses are being demolished and locals are unable to compete with the purchasing power of foreign buyers
A urgent council meeting held in the village of El Bosque, in Cádiz province, has passed an agreement to suspend planning permission for multi-family dwellings, with the reason given by Europa Press on Tuesday that the demand for second residences is having a ‘negative effect’ in the villages of the Cádiz Sierras.
The Town Hall says the villagers’ are unable to compete with the purchasing power of foreign buyers, and that traditional houses in the village centre are being demolished to make way for apartments to sell to foreign buyers.

While it is wrong that traditional village houses are being lost in order
for blocks of new flats or luxury housing to be erected in their place it
is also wrong to imply that ONLY foreign purchasers can afford to purchase
them. Very many of the Spanish people I know own at least 2 properties and
other land. Normally 1 of the properties will have been in the family for
generations but the other one and the land will have been bought within
the last 30 years when prices were extremely cheap and if they wished they
COULD sell either of these at a huge profit, thus giving them the same
purchasing power. The fly in the ointment however is that these "other"
properties or land were bought with Black Money, that is undeclared income!
