More than two million people are expected in the capital to enjoy events which run from today until Sunday

The European Gay Pride march and associated events are forecast to attract two million people to the capital this weekend.

Gays, lesbians, trans and bisexuals are expected to take over the city from today until Sunday at more than 100 activities including concerts of pop, opera, flamenco and jazz, and an almost endless list of exhibitions.

Those Europeans who arrive at Barajas airport will be offered a special free tourist bus to take them to the city centre.

The main event, the march from the Puerta de Alcalá to the Plaza de España takes place on Saturday afternoon.

Traffic diversions following closed streets come into operation today with the entire Chueca district made into a pedestrian area from this afternoon until Sunday.

Meanwhile the Family Forum, Foro de Familia, has described the Europride Festival as ‘an insult to religion’.
‘They dress up as priests, nuns and even Jesus Christ’, said a spokesman who also criticised the fact that Madrid City Hall is helping to finance the event to the tune of 100,000 €.
