Alinghi on the point of winning the America´s Cup in Valencia
A lack of wind led to the cancelling of the latest round of the America’s Cup in Valencia on Saturday, when the Alinghi team could have made their fifth and all-important win. The score stands at 4-2 in favour of the Swiss.
The two teams will face each other again, wind permitting, tomorrow, Tuesday.
Meanwhile agreement has been reached to make the Spanish vessel, Desafío, the first boat to challenge Alinghi when the competition is held in 2009, again in Valencia.
Fernando Alonso climbed three places to seventh in the French Grand Prix yesterday in a race won by the two Ferraris and Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso’s team-mate Lewis Hamilton came in third and has opened a greater lead over Alonso, with this 8th consecutive podium. After the race, Alonso commented that he knew more or less how the race would end, and he hoped the two points he achieved would matter come the end of the season.
At Wimbledon some third round ties need to be completed in a programme delayed by rain, and with more forecast to be on the way.
Rafa Nadal faces 22 year old Swede Robin Soderling at noon today. and Juan Carlos Ferrero is also looking for a place in the quarter finals. He plays the 23 year old Janko Tipsarevic.
The Sports Newspaper Marca says that final agreement has been reached, and Luis García is now a player for Athético de Madrid.
The paper says that Liverpool will get some five million €. The new player will be presented in the Vicente Calderón stadium later this week.
The former Málaga and Sevilla football player, Dario Silva, from Uruguay has been arrested in Seville on fraudulent bankruptcy charges.
El Mundo says the arrest was made in a hotel on Saturday.
The player suffered a traffic accident in Montevideo in September 2006 in which he lost part of his right leg.
